THE POLITICAL SITUATION.

The latest reports from Wellington suggest that the division on Mr Massey’s no-confidence motion will be token to-night and that it will result in a majority of two for the Opposition. Mr Veitch is expected to vote with Mr Massey in fulfilment of his election pledge and Mr Atmore is assigned to the same lobby. It is still not quite clear what will happen after the division. If Mr Massey is successful Sir Joseph Ward, following the usual course, will tender his resignation to the Governor and recommend his Excellency to send for the leader of the Opposition. Mr Massey will be entrusted with the formation of a Ministry, and after submitting the names of his colleagues to the Governor will make tho usual announcement to the House of Representatives. We hope that the House will then adjourn until the usual session in Juno and. give the new Government an opportunity to formulate its policy and the country an opportunity to recover from its satiety of politics.
