■ Delegates elected by tire members of tho Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants are meeting this week in. Wellington for the biennial conference of that big organisation. In taking the chair this morning, Air V. T. Wilson (Palmerston North), who had been appointed pending an election of president for the ensuing two years, stated that while the outgoing Executive Council had not accomplished all "it aimed at, yet it had succeeded in doing a great deal to improve wages and working conditions on the railways. While he regretted that Mr W. A. Veitch, the Society’s ex-president, was not able to be present that morning to open the conference, he congratulated him on his elevation to the position of member of Parliament. No doubt during the conference lie would put in mi appearance and have pleasure in addressing the members on Society matters. He (Mr Wilson) hud pleasure in

welcoming tlio delegates, and he hoped that, no matter what differences of opinion might arise, all wore concerned only for the well-being of the Society and were determined to do theijj best for the men they represented. . ' Business relating to the _ Society*# monthly journal, “ The Railway Ren view,” was then dealt with, and iff was unanimously resolved, that th-j present editor, Mr Charles E. Wheeler, should be reappointed, and that wider. epportunities should be given for tho discussion of matters relating to tho Labour movement and social and economic questions.
