A SERIOUS CHARGE.

[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, October 2.

A cabman named John Brooks was arrested to-day on a charge of attempting to defeat the course of justice by endeavouring to persuade a woman named Minnie Whittingham to give false evidence at the trial of Mrs O'Shaughnessy in the Kingsland case. Mrs Whittingham was one of the witnesses summoned on behalf of the prosecution. It is likely that another similar charge will be laid against Brooks.
