LAWN TENNIS.
THE DAVIS CUP.
AAIERICAX PLAYERS TO AHSIT NEW ZEALAND. [Froh Our Corhespo.vdint.] AVDLLINGTON, September 7. The Davis Cup championship tournament at Christchurch on December 29 and 30 and January 1 will be made all the more important by the inclusion among the competitors of leading American players. One of the most prominent American tennis officials, writing to Air F. M. B. Fisher, ALP.! states: “It may interest vou to know that wo are still far from having selected our. Cup team. AVe regard Larned as a certainty (Larned has won tne United States championship four times), Beals Alright is a strong probability, and one or more of the Californians. It is too early to do more than forecast the matter, as our big tournaments may bring new men to the front. Touchard has beaten both AI Loughlm and Long, who represented America in the last Davis Cup. mul whilst somewhat erratic and frail physically. he is a most remarkable plaver and might possibly be included in tho team." Air Fisher states that now there is a probability that AVilding will not be present, the Australasian representatives are likelv to be Brookes and. Heath in the Singles and Brookes and Dunlop in the Doubles, qii-'t-’ is strong as the formidable Brookes-Wilding combination.
