A message from Cork states that Mrs Katherine Cecil Thurston, the novelist, was found dead in bed. Katherine Cecil Thurston was a native of Cork, and was educated privately. Amongst her publications vvero the following:—“The Circle” (1903), “ John Chilcote, M.P. ” (1904), “The Gambler” (1906), “The Fly on the Wheel” (1908).

Mr William Walton, the son of one of the oldest residents here, is dead, aged forty-eight years. He was a very enthusiastic supporter of the temperance cause. An eulogium on the deceased was spoken by the Rev N. Griffen last night, who paid a touching tribute to his memory. He was also an ardent cricketer, having been secretary of the West Coast Association since its inception. The cause of death was blood-poisoning, followed by pneumonia and bronchitis.
