THIRD DAY. The Diocesan Synod resumed its session at 4 p.m. yesterday, the pi ent (Bishop Julius) in the chair. ( ASSESSORS OF THE BISHOP’S | COURT. C. Bean, H. Bishop. S.M., W. G. Brittan, G. Mintyro, J. Ross, and J. Studnolmo. j WOMAN’S RIGHT TO VOTE, i Tho debate on Mr T. W. Rowe’s motion—" That it be a respectful recommendation to the next session or tn General Synod to pass legislation extending to women the right ot voting at parish meetings”—was resumed. Mr Rowe having replied, a division was taken, and the resolution was lost, tho voting being:—Ayes —clergy laity 24; noes—clergy 33, laity 16. j ELECTION OF TRUSTEES, i Messrs E. W. Relph and T. F. Gibson were elected. Church Property Trustees. CONFIRMATION REGISTERS. The Rev W. H. Orbell moved—- “ That the Standing Committee should be requested to provide at the expense of each parish a register in book form for the purpose of keeping a record of confirmations.” Tho resolution was canned after a short discussion. SALE OF PROPERTY.

Tho Rev A. H. Julius moved —“ That at the request of ilio vestry of St Peter’s, Akaroa, the Church Property Trustees should ho authorised by the Synod—subject to the approval of the Standing Committee—to effect the sal© of tho present vicarage and glebe of two acres, situate in tlie borough of Akaroa, and to apply the proceeds of such sale in the following manner: To pay the cost of the erection of a new vicarage to bo built upon the section recently purchased by the Church Property Trustees and situated in tho centre of tho borough of Akaroa. Plans and materials to be submitted to tho approval of the Standing Committee. To pay tho cost of the erection of a church schoolroom on the same section. Plaus and materials to be submitted to the approval of the Standing Committee. To pay the cost of the necessary fencing and putting the ground in order. To pay any balance towards tho reduction of the debt on the new ground.” . . The resolution was carried. The Synod adjourned at 6 p.m. ARCHDEACON HARPER. On resuming, on the motion of Mr W. H. Hargreaves, seconded by Mr H. D. Andrews, it was resolvod—“ That this Synod has heard with deep regret of the resignation, owing to the weight of advancing years, of tlie Venerable Henry William Harper, M.A., of the cure of Timaru, where ho has so faithfully ministered for upwards of thirtysix years, together with his office aB Archdeacon, of Timaru and Westland, which lie has so ably filled for upwards of forty-fivo years, and in bidding him farewell, tenders hint its warmest appreciation of his many sterling personal qualities, and desires to place on record its grateful recognition of the able, consistent and faitluul services he has rendered to this dicceso.and to the Church of the Province of New Zealand; and prays that ho may bo spared many years to enjoy in his retirement the well-earned rest from his valued lahours.” SECOND READINGS. The debate on tho second reading of the Bill to amend tho regulations for tlie management of tho Clergy Widows’ and Orphans’ Trust Fund was continued up till the adjournment. STANDING COMMITTEE. Tlie election of tho Standing Committee to servo for the ensuing year resulted, on the first ballot, in the final election of the lay portion of the committee, as follows:—Messrs E. J. Ross, W. O. Bean, T. D. Harman, 11. D. Andrews, P. H. Cox, W. G. Brittan, H. W. Bishop and C. H. Bridge. The election of clerical members resulted, on' the first ballot, in the election of only seven members out of the eight resigned * a majority of both clergy and laity being required to make a valid election. There wero thirteen clerical nominations, and the six unelected nominees were again balloted for. Two ballots wore ineffective, and a third had to be. taken. The result of this ballot, will bo announced to-day, tho scrutineers being absent when tlie adjournment was made at 10.20 p.m.
