TAYLOR MEMORIAL FUND.
Mns Wells has sent us a very sensible letter in regard to the Taylor Memorial Fund which we should like to commend to tho attention of a number of anonymous correspondents who have wished to discuss tho subject from another standpoint. Aftor the very definite statement mado by Mr 0. B. Salter at the meeting of the Memorial Committee on Monday thero can bo no doubt that tho frionds of the lato Mr T. B. Taylor will be expressing their appreciation of his personal worth and of his public services very appropriately by subscribing to the fund according to their means and their inclination. Probably tho story that has been going about to tho effect that the money is not required for the purpose for which it ,s intended was sot in circulation by some idle gossip who had no wish to defeat tho purpose of tho promoters, and in any case it would be a poor tribute to
tho man wo all wish to honour to make i it the subject of further angry discussion. What is wanted now is an earnest effort by tho people who are still mourning tho lots of a loyal friend and I a devoted public servant to raise a | memorial that will bo worthy of an ! unselfish lifo and an exemplary death. This is the point to which Mrs Wolb with true womanly sympathy is calling ub back.
