INVITATION TO MEMBERS OE PARLIAMENT.
It was generally expected when the Pilime Minister announced in Ills speech in the Art Gallery on Febiuary 26 that he had received an invitation for eight members of the New Zealand Parliament to become the guests of the two Houses of tho Imperial Parliament for a fortnight during the Coronation festivities, that very few of tho members would be able to- get away on such short notice. This has proved to be tho caso. Sir Joseph V. ard at once communicated with all the members explaining the terms of the invitation, but up to midday yesterday only one of them had signified his readiness to make tho trip. As it was necessary for tho Minister to deal with the matter before leaving the dominion, ho sent a cablegram from Auckland yesterday to the Committee of the Imperial Parliament regretting that the invitation could not be accepted. At the samo time he sent tho following telegram to members of the Legislative Council and of tho House of Representatives: —“Up to the last moment find only one member has accepted the invitation of tho Committee of both Houses of British Parliament to be their guests at Coronation. This being so, as eight were asked for, I have informed Committee that it is regretted members will not bo able to avail themselves of courteous invitation.” It is still hoped that some members of the New Zealand Parliament will be present at the Coronation in their private capacity.
