FIRE BRIGADES’ ACCIDENT ASSOCIATION.

[Per Press Association.] ' HOKITIKA, March 5. I I Tho nineteenth annual meeting of the United Fire Brigades Accident Association ivas held hero last night. Captain Spriggins (Wanganui) presided. The balance sheet and report were adopted. The report stated that in spite of numerous accident claims made and paid during the past year, a satisfactory credit balance had accrued. To an extent this might bo attributed to the reduced claims from the larger brigades. Reference was made in the report to the neglect shown by brigades in regard to the registering of new members. Four brigades had joined the Society, which now has a total membership of eightyeight brigades, making a grand total membership,-of 1581, an increase of 62 since last meeting. The amount of the credit of the accident fund of tho Society amounts to £1662 7s od. 11 ho funds of the Society were reported to be well invested, £1530 being loaned on Government borough and Harbour Board debentures, bearing interest at an average of 4J per cent. The usual allowance of £SO was voted in connection with the death of a deceased fireman, % former resident of Feilding. It was resolved that any officer having I already filled the position of president

was not eligible for re-election. The election of officers resulted :—President, Captain Hansen (Westport); vice-presidents, Superintendent Bellringer (New Plymouth) and Captain Ralston (Inglewood); secretary, Mr T. •T. Watts (Newmarket); treasurer, Mr Rcantlohury (Reefton); auditor, 31 r P. R. Fraser (Auckland). Votes of thanks were recorded to the outgoing officers, Mr Gilberd being especially singled out in the references made by speakers.' Tho Conference was then declared closed.
