WpOLSTON. . A meeting of the AYoohten Borough Council was held on Alonday; present— The Mayor (Mr M’Gregor Wright), Councillors Round, Radcliffe. Woods, Taylor. Coupland, Graham, Crawford, Moore and Wilkinson. On tho recommendation of the Works Committee it was decided to plough the sides of th*> western end of Parlies Street,.- The report of the Finance Committee showed the receipts since tho previous mooting'to have been £513 17s ltd. Temporary loans amounted to £I7SO, and tho credit balance was £137 9s Bd. Loan account was in credit to • the amount of £49, and the supplementary loan account to the amount of £1559. Accounts amounting to £137 7s 9d were recommended for payment.- Tho Reserve Committee reported that, the boundary between tho park and Mr Page’s land had boon cleared, and a drain at, tho southwestern end authorised. A temporary fence had been erected to protect graded land. It was decided to erect, a wire netting fence around the rotunda, and to make no alteration in tins seats already contracted for. The Bath Committee having reported a, serious leak hi tho swimming, bath, the matter was referred to" the. committee with power to act. The clerk was. instructed to take .action—in respect of property against which a judgment hod been obtained for rates, and also- te take proceedings' against the owners of properties who failed to cut. back gorso. NEW BRIGHTON. ■ An" ordinary mooting of the New Brighton Borough Council was held on Aloudav night : present—tho Mayor (Air \Y, H. Be! la ray 1 and' Councillors Sellars, Witliell, Bruce, Marriott.; Scqble,. Hargreaves, Goodwin and Buxton. The general manager. ..of -the Christchurch Tramway Board wrote, Stating that the Board had decided to provide nri additional car lor . the 5:15 trip from the Square, and that under the Board’s arrangement with the Christchurch City Council it could not undertake the watering of tho Sea View Road. The Works Committee reported that a hew bathing shelter had been erected on the North Esplanade, and the one on the South Esplanade had been repaired. On.the motion of Councillor Bruce it. was.' decided to write to the Lyttelton Harbour Board asking it te place a lifebuoy at Herring Bay. Hie Council went into committee to further consider matters which had been discussed by tlie special, committee of the Council last month, and, on resuming it was reported that the Mayor and town clerk , would wait on the borough solicitors for advice regarding the legislation recently passed regarding the foreshore and the pier, and report at the next Council meeting, arid, that the Mayor would make inquiries from the Mayor of Sumner regarding ■ the proposed requisition •in connection with sanitation conveniences to be presented to the Christchurch City Council and tho Tramway Board.
