LAST YEAR’S AMENDMENT. PROSECUTION IN WELLINGTON. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 10. Tho first case brought locally under the legislation passed last year, fixing tho maximum penalty at £SO for supplying intoxicating liquor to Native women, was heard at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when Benjamin Phillips was fined 20s and £1 16s costs for providing a female Native with a long “ shandy.” Tho defence was that the liquor had not been purchased for the woman, but for a male Native.
