From Newcastle—Brisbane, s.s., left January 7, due Lyttelton January 13. UNION STEAM SHIP COMPANY. The Mararoa will arrive from Wellington this morning and will depart for the north again this evening. The Monowai will arrive this morning from Dunedin, and in the afternoon she will sail for Auckland via Wellington, Napier and Gisborne. The Mokoia will reach here this morning from Auckland via east coast ports. She will leave later for Dunedin. The Aparima, from Calcutta via Wellington, is expected to-day, and in the evening she will sail for Dunedin and Bluff. Th« s.s. Wootton arrived at Kaiapoi last evening from Kaikoura, with a consignment of cattle. -Sho is due to arrive in Lyttelton this evening. The Marine Department has issued a notice stating that the revolving light at Cape Maria van Diemen will be resumed on the night of January 17. The Italian ship Beeoroft arrived at Newcastle on Monday from Lyttelton. The vessel left Lyttelton, in ballast, on December 24, and completed her journey in about sixteen days. Alter taking in a cargo of coal et Newcastle she will leave for South America.

A return published in Sydney shows that during the months of October, November *nd December, no fewer than 606 ships arrived in Sydney. Tho national ports of departure were as follows:—Queensland 129, Victoria 82, Britain 61, South Australia 68, New Zealand 63, America 35, Tasmania 33, Western Australia 81, South Seas 27, Germany 19, France 15, Japan 16, Africa 6, India 8, Singapore 4, Sweden 4, Canada 3, Dutch 3, Vancouver 8, Norway 3, China 2 and Russia 1. The total registered tonnage being 1,408,888 tons. Captain R. Crawford, late of the Takapuna, will take command of the Mapourika. Mr H. D. Burch, late seoond of tho Takapuna, will transfer in a similar capacity to the Jlapourika. Mr Pasooe, purser, and Mr P. J. Collins, chief engineer of the Takapuna will join the Haupiri and Waitemata respectively. About thirty stewards signed off the R.M.S. Maitai in Wellington on Saturday. The scow Ngoru came off the slip yesterday, after being overhauled. She will probably leave for Wellington with a load of machinery on Saturday. The Sussex, due in Lyttelton to-morrow, has about 2000 tons of oargo to discharge at this port. Captain J. R. Stringer is in command of the Aparima, due in Lyttelton from Calcutta this morning, and he has the following officers associated with him:—Chief. Mr R. A. Williamson; second, Mr A. H. Macdonald ; third, Mr J. Plowman. Mir 'J. Dunlop is chief engineer, Mr Q. Rogerson second, Mr W. N. Aimers third, Mr S. J. Munn fourth, Mr D. M. Whitson fifth, and Mr W. Thomas sixth, while Mr J. H. M'Naim is purser.
