Yesterday afternoon his Excellency the Governor attended the second dav’s racing of the Canterbury Jockey Club.

Last evening Lord and Lady Islington gave a dinner at “ Elmwood,” at which the following guests were present:—The Hon H. F. Wigrain, M.L.C., Sir George Clifford, Mr and Mrs A. E. G. Rhodes, Mr and Mrs J. Studholme, Mr, Mrs and Miss Boyle, Mr and Mrs J. Anderson, Mrs A. Williams, Miss Stapleton-Cotton, Captain Shannon. A.D.C., and Captain Maitland, A.D.C.

To-day his Excellency will give an official luncheon.
