. A general order issued by the Defence Council states that Lieutenant L. G. Salter, of the Christchurch City "Rifles, has been transferred to the active unattached list. Lieutenant T. A. Gates, of the Kaiapoi Rifles, has been promoted to the rank of captain. Mr 11. D. Bailey has been appointed acting-lieu-tenant of the North Canterbury Mounted Rifles. Tilo.transfer of the Rev A. Mitchell as honorary chaplain to tho Amur: Mounted Rifle.- h;, : s been, approved. ti.e Rangiora High School Cadets went, into camp, on Saturday for a week at Kairaki Peach, near Kaiapoi. Major T. n. Cresswoll is in command of the camp, and one of the staff sergeantmajors is with tho company for the purpose of giving instruction in drill.
