By reference to our advertising col* umns it will be seen that a special meeting; of the Taranaki Relief Committee is culled for Monday next, at noon, to consider a desptaoh just received from. the Deputy-Superintendent of Taranaki. Bv the courtesy of th« Hon Scocetary. vr© have been favoured with the perusal of the despatch in question, which states that, as no refugees ha« as yet proceeded to Canterbury, the committee would 1)0 relieved from their offer to defray the cost of passages thither. It is further stated that the! Provincial Government of Nelson advance all moneys necessary for the use of the refugees in that province, to be reimbursed ultimately bv the General Government, who had distinctly intimated that at Nelson only, would .provision be made by them for Taranaki sufferers. The Airedale, from Otago, arrived at: 10 p.m. yesterday, but brings no news; of importance. The Evening Star, from 1 London July 4, arrived at Port Chalm-. ers on the 18th instant, with about 100 ; passengers. The brig "\Vanderer was re-i ported to have gone ashore at Jacob V River, but no further particulars were known. A meeting of Natives was held on the 16th to express their sympathy with the pakohas in the present war. AVo hear that shearing lias commenced in the north. Should the present fine weather continue, it may be expected to become prety general by the beginning of next month.
