Mr Justice Sim arrived from Wellington yesterday. Mr John Fuller, jun-, left for Wellington last evening. Mr T. A. Phillips (The Point) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Air and Airs A. S. Elwortliy, of Tiinaru, left yesterday for Sydney. Mr A. S. Biss, District Engineer of the Railway Department at Christchurch, left for M’ellington last night. Tho Napier Borough Council has appointed Air John StuiToek, of Invercargill, as borough engineer. Dr Thacker left Christchurch yesterday on his way to the Zambesi to seii the sculling match between R. Arnst and Barry. Air J. H. Parker left Christchurch last evening, and will go to tho Zambesi to see the sculling match between Arnst and Barry.

Mr Stavelev Grant, manager of tho Marlow Dramatic Company, went north last evening to arrange a return season in the principal North Island towns. . Messrs 0. C. Mills (Alelbounio), D. R. Holmes (Sydney), S. Brico (Wellington) and W. M’Rao Peacock (Hawke’s Bay) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Miss AL T. On Wednesday evening the employees of the Hoatheote Road Board met Air H Barnard, late foreman of works, and presented him with a silver teapot, anil an oak biscuit barrel anil a silver sugar scuttle for Airs Barnard. In a report, yesterday of reference's made by members of (die Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to the death of Nurse Xesbit, it was stated that she contracted typhoid fever while performing her duties. Dr T. L. Crooke, medical superintendent of the Hospital, states that tho cause of her death was neither typhoid fever nor diphtheria. A private cable message'states that Airs S. A. At an informal gathering yesterday of members of the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals a gold-mounted fountain-pen was presented to Air J. H. Parker by Mr T. C. Field on the occasion of Mr Parker’s departure for South Africa on an extended holiday trip. Air Parker is one of tho oldest members of the Society in Christchurch, having been connected with it for nearly twenty-eight veers, ami be Ims on several occasions been chairman of the Executive Committee,
