LORD ISLINGTON WELCOMED IN

Lord Islington was welcomed aboard the Macedonia. The New Zealanders Association presented an address welcoming him to the lands under the Southern Cross, and expressing congratulations on his appointment to the Governorship of the dominion. Iho address added:—“Our welcome is but the forerunner of that wider one that is assured your Lordship on reaching our native land. We trust that your residence in the dominion will prove a happy one to yourself and Lady Islington. as well as for the subjects of his Majesty over whom you aro called upon to rule.”

Lord Islington, in reply, thanked the Association for its congratulations. Ho said that lie appreciated the courtesy extended to him. Lady Islington and he were looking forward to their sojourn in New Zealand, and anticipated a pleasant residence among the loyal inhabitants of that beautiful part of his Majesty’s dominions. The Maori footballers and New Zealand footballers gave war cries.

Owing to the new Government House not yet being ready for occupation, the new Governor (Lord Islington), who is due to arrive here next Wednesday, will stay at the Wellington Club until his permanent abode is available.
