THE UNIVERSITY REGISTRAR.
A FAREWELL GATHERING
Mr J. \V. Joynt, who has for the past twelve years occupied the position of Registrar* of the University of New Zealand, will leave tho dominion during the last week in 4 u g ust to take up his residence in England. Mr Jovnt will maintain his connection with tho Now Zealand University, as ho will succeed to tho position of English agent of the University, which has been occupied loathe past seventeen years by Mr H. W. Eve, who is now retiring. Mr Joynt is at present paying his last visit to Christchurch, and last evening lie was entertained by the members of tho Professorial Board of Canterbury College at dinner. Professor Gabbatt, chairman of the Board, presided. In proposing tile health of Mr Joynt, Professor F. W. Haslam said that not only had Mr Joynt been a good and faithful servant of the University, but lie had also been a good friend to tho professors. They all regretted his departure very much, but their farewells would bo accompanied by an assurance that their kindliest thoughts and good wishes would follow him to the other sido of the world. ... In reply, Mr Joynt said that he greatly appreciated the compliment that had been ‘paid to him by the Canterbury professors, who were a body of men for whom ho had always entertained great respect. _ Although ho had been an administrative officer cf an examining University, his interests and sympathies had always been with the teaching work cf affiliated Colleges. During his work in England lie would always treasure recollections of that evening perhaps above those of any other farewell extended to him. !
