BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION.

0 SYDENHAM. A monthly meeting of the Sydenham Burgesses’ Association was held on Tuesday evening, Mr G. E. Good presiding. Mr T. Konayne, General Manager of Railways, wrote, in answer to the Association, stating that • instructions had been given to connect the conveniences at the Christchurch Railway Station with the sewerago system as soon as possible. The letter was received. Tlie Christchurch Fire Board forwarded a report which had been promised some mouths ago to a deputation which had waited upon it from the Association with reference to seyeral grievances in connection with the Sydenham lire station. Tho report was received and. discussed. Two clauses were disagreed with, those referring to the removal-of the telephone from Sydenham to the central station, and tho removal of a fire-engine. A clause relating to non-attendance of the Sydenham staff and plant at a fire in Sydenham, was held over for further information. Tho secretary was instructed to write to the Fire Board, stating that the residents of Sydenham wero not satisfied with the present fire-engine at Sydenham, no'r with the telephonic communication, and requesting the Board to receive a deputation from the Association with reference to these matters. Messrs G. E. Good, C. Lafferty and H. Hunter were appointed a deputation to wait oil tho Fire Board. It was resolved that tlie City Council should be requested to make provision for enabling residents of Sydenham to obtain permits for burning rubbish without having to travel to the Council Chambers in the city to obtain them. It was decided to forward a letter from Mr S. Clements with reference to a nuisance created bv sewer gratings, to tlie Drainage Board. Oil the motion of Mr H. Hunter, seconded by Mr J. Bellamy, it was agreed to ask the City Council to supply Full particulars of the terms of the city engineer’s engagement, the salary which he was to receive under that argreement, and the total amount of salary received by him for each year since his engagement, the amount of his salary at present, and whether he was permitted to receivo sums of money as remuneration for services rendered to outside bodios or individuals. On the motion of Mr A. D. Hart, seconded by Mr W. Scarff, it was decldod to ask also for a return showing the total cost of repairing the. leakages in the pipes of the city water supply, and whether the city engineer had been paid a bonus on the undertaking. Mr A. D. Hart gave notion to move that a public indignation meeting should bo held to protest against tho manner in which questions of vital importance to the residents of Christchurch. wore dealt with by the various local bodies.
