LINCOLN COLLEGE.

ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Lincoln College Board of Governors, which wa3 Sled at Tuesday’s meeting, stated tho attendance of students had been maintained at the limit last year, and fifty-one had been enrolled. The work of the 1209 students had been most satisfactory, and tv. anty-icur had left at the end cf the year. Of that number seven laid been first year, eight second year, and one a third year pupil. Eight students completed the course, seven gaining diplo-aas. Upwards of £ol)0 had been spent on permanent improvements during the year. A swimming bath, 7oft x fluff, had been provided. It was noped that tho implement sheds would be in use before tho winter. For some time it had been apparent that the area of tho College farm was too limited to carry a sufficient number cf sheep for the thorough training of students, and latterly the health of tho sheep had been impaired by their being kept tno continuously cn the heavy lands of the farm. The knowledge cf these facts prompted, tho Board of Governors to make an effort to secure more land, and. it was able to purchase 1500 acres of light land within a few miles of the College. The acquisition of this land had enabled tho Collego to give tho students a complete knowledge of the treatment of all classes of soils from the heaviest to tho very lightest, and carry some 1600 more ewes, thus providing more sheep for training the students in sheep management, shearing, classing, and so on. The general health of the sheep had been very much improved by the frequent changing on the different classes of soil. Tile farm, with its crops and stock, was inspected by a large gathering of Canterbury farmers, invited to the College in. the middle of December, and the opinion war, generally expressed that the College was fulfilling its object in that it was teaching the students the principles of scientific agriculture, showing how these could he ap-

plied to a farm run on a commcrcia basis.
