PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. [Per Press Association.] GREYMOUTH, March 17. The championship athletic meeting _ was concluded to-day iu glorious weather, with a large attendance. Results; Cumberland Wrestling—-Tweedde 1, M’Donald 2. Half-mile Championship—Trembalh (Gore) 1, Campbell (l’ikokino) 2. Time—lmin 63 l-asee. . Vaulting Championship—O’Connell (Temuka), 10ft 2in, 1. Horgan (South Canterbury) gave an exhibition, and cleared 10ft 6in. Quarter-mile Hurdle Championship—Shivas (Grey) and Campbell (Tikokino) dead heat. 220yds Championship—Trembath (Gore) 1, Shivas (Grey) 2. Time—23sec. Hop, Step and Jump—Metcalf (South Canterbury), 41ft 7in, 1; Horgan (South Canterbury), 39ft 2in, 2; O’Connell (Temuka), 39ft lin, '3. Quarter-mile Championship Trembath (Gore) 1, Shivas (Grey) 2. Time—ss l-ssec.
UNION TO CONTROL CYCLING. [Per Press Association.] GIIEYMOUTH, March 17,
The Athletic Union Conference, by 24 votes to 4, decided to take over the control of cycling from July 31. [Fnon Our Correspondent.] GREYMOUTH, March 17.
At to-day’s mooting of the Athletic Union several remits dealing with minor alterations to the rules were agreed to. After considerable discussion it was agreed that tho Union should take over tlio control of cycling. The action of the League of Wheelmen was severely criticised by delegates. The voting was 24 in favour and 4 against.
