NEWCASTLE STRIKE.

COAL SUPPLIES SHORT. STEAMERS STILL LAID UP. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, March 17. Though the strike is over it is not likely that full supplies of coal will be available for some weeks. During the strike the intcr-Stato companies had over fifty steamers laid up, and thirty of these are still idle. The docking and getting them into/running order will mean a further large outlay. The total losses of the inter-State and Union Companies over the strike are estimated at £200,000.
