The four-masted barque Andromeda. 116 day 3 out from New York, reached Wellington on Tuesday evening. She made an uneventfu. passage, the only features of which wore the occasional pales incidental to a long ocean voyage. She left New York on November 20, and soon fell m with a succession of southerly pales, sometimes of hurricane force, which lasted for nearly four weeks. Mountainous seas swept the decks. When the vessel was forty days out. the equator was passed, and the subsequent south-west trades were squally all through—so fierce at -times that some sails were tom to shreds. Gough Island—a desolate spot about 2000 miles soutb-wost of the Cape was sighted on January 17. The Andromeda ran her “ easting down ” along the 42nd parallel of south latitude, with variable fortunes of winds and seas. On February 5 a violent westerly gale was encountered in 68dog E-, and the barque laboured heavily in the trough of the seas. Thereafter moderate conditions were tho rule till Monday, Mnrch 7. when a strong blow from the northwest necessitated her being hove-to under lower mizzsn topsail. The Andromeda, which Is under command of Captain R. J. Deeks, brings a load of case oils.
