Taylor special mention. GIRTON COLLEGE. The annual prize distribution at Girton College was hold yesterday at the conclusion of the " break-up " ceremonies. There was a very large attendance, and the proceedings wore bright and enjoyable. The pupils gave soveral pretty dramatic scenes, and in all of them a remarkable power of elocution was noticeable. Two items in French were given, the pronunciation being very good. Miss Ronson recited Byron's "Isles of Greece" sympathetically. Miss Freeman, the principal of the College, addressed the peop.e present upon the necessity of selfcontrol. She sa d that though man had been able, to conquer the forces of nature and bend them to his will, he had been unable to conquer himself. Self-control was most necessary iu life, and it was tho parents and teachers of children that could impart to them tho power of self-control, the nower that would make them good mon and omen. The twenty-second annual social gathering in connection with the prize-giving ceremony of Gilby's Commercial College was held in the Alexandra Hall last evening l . The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr C Allison) presided, and in opening the proceedings spoke of the valuable work that was being done by Mr Gilby and his assistants among the young people of Christchurch in fitting them to take an important part in the commercial life of the city.
