BOXING.

CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB. The concluding events of tho final tournament of (lie Christchurch Sports Club were held at the Theatre Royal hist evening, before a moderate attendance. An excellent programme was provided and the eonfor.ts were interesting and conducted in the best possible spirit. V.\ Weerm, although tbe popular favourite on account of his pinch and tenacity failed to defeat Of. T. Russell in the final of (he feather-weight competition. Yen' Tittle science was displayed by cither competitor, and that littlo was provided by Russell. The bout was remarkable in that it is the first decision riven durin« the season ’hat was met with pronounced opposition from the aud’ence. Another circumstance that had peculiar features was Oie decision of the referee in the limit between E. Tavlor and H. Mitchell. Taylor had been knocked down and counted mil, hut at the call of “nine” Mitchell rushed forward, evidently with the intention of hitting his opponent if the latter rose. At the count of “ out" Mitchell stopped and did not slrike Irs opponent. The referee, however, awarded the contest, to Taylor. Up til] then, (he fourth round, the two had been ly sportsmanlike in their aetions towards one another, Mitchell bein'- cheered for lifting his opnonent up after both had tripned. In'the novice lhrht-weßht. final, C H. Bliss was no match for J. Anderson, whoso wellplanted blows scored with a disconcerting freouenoy. The middle-weight novices wero truly novices, and the. contests in that class were undoubted.y the poorest of the tournament. C. Chisnall and AY. Murton in the final of tho bantam-weight class gave a firstclass exhibition. Tho six-round bout between Mel lira o ami Judge was the best of the evening. and XoUivnn. though s more shitful boxer. lost through lack of initiative. The following are the results:—-
