FIRES.
[Pjcb Press Association.] AUCKLAND, October 12
The Methodist Church at Helonsville narrowly escaped destruction by lire about eleven o'clock this morning, the outbreak being caused by a spark from a neighbouring chimney. Miss Maud Rimmer, who has her studio in the basement, on entering noticed a strong smell of fire, and the opening of her door caused the draught to fan the flame, whioh commenced to creep up the side of the building, but was soon extinguished by firemen. Had the outbreak not been noticed when it was nothing could have saved the church and the next building, also a church.
