CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB
A meeting of the committed of the Christchurch Sportfc Club was held yesterday.
Tho secretary reported that ho had arranged six-round bouts between P. Kane and W. Cooper and 11. Orerenfl and J. Morrissey os preliminaries to the professional contest between J. 31. Griffin and J. Smith.
T. Clark, middle-weight, wrote stating that he was unable to accept, a match with J. Smith or any other middle-weight, owing to his being about to loavo for Australia.
Correspondence was received from Ashburton, Timaru and Dunedin. stating that entries from those places would be forwarded for the Canterbury Championship tournament on July 14 and ]•">. The representative of A. Gault. the Auckland light-weight, who is at piesent in Sydney, wrote stating that Gault is prepared to meet any i)st 71b man in Now Zealand, or would agree to meet T. Tracy for the light-weight championship. The secretary wa.s authorised lo communicate with Gault, John Griffin, Murphy. Tracy, Picton, Smith, Turner and Maloney with respect to matches. Correspondence from the New Zealand Council, dealing with the business to be considered at the conference of local Associations, to be held at Dunodin on July 22, was received. The club's representatives were empowered to deal with the. subjects contained m the correspondence.
