A FISHERMAN DROWNED. [Fkoh Our Coreesi'on-dent.J KAIKOURA, April 28. A messenger from the south coast reported to tile police this morning that a man was clinging to the bottom of a fishing boat some distance off the shore, ten miles down the ooa-st. It was surmised that it was Johnston, a fisherman who, with others, was fishing . there yesterday, and was caught in the heavy north-east wind. Though some got back, others had to shelter. Johnston waa unable to pull against tho wind and evidently anchored all night, but how ho capsized has not been ascertained., A rescue party left in a launch, but as there was a "heavy northerly gale, with a rough eea, progress was difficult. The rescue party arrived just too late. Johnston was seen by those on shore to bo washed off two or three times, and at last he disappeared altogether. His body has not been recovered yet. [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, April 28J. Gallie, employed at Brinsley's foundry, fell into a furnace to-day, being overcome by fumes of coke. He sustained a few bruises, was got out unconscious, and is now at the hospital. He has not yet recovered consciousness. It is thought that he will recover. Three others who rescued him were also overcome, but soon recovered. GORE, April 28. James Sutherland, a farmer at Kelso, single, about forty years of age, rode into the dredging dam at the Little Waikaka last night and was drowned. It is thought that he mistook the old disused road and got into the dam before he was aware of the mistake. The body has been.recovered.

A boy named Carter, in tho employ of Mc&srs Chapman Bros., Southbridto, met with an accident on Sunday. He was riding a bicycle and driving several horses, and coming intp contact with one of the animals, ho received a kick on the forehead, sustaining a slight fracturo of the skull. An operation was found necessary, and the boy is now slowly recovering. Mr Thomas Stalker, Orari. met with a serious accident on Monday night at the Rangitata River. He was. occupying on© of tho huts, and on reachins; across a table he knocked over a Rochester lamp. The floor of the hut was speedily in flames, arid Mr Stalker was badly burned about the legs and head before he could make his escape. The hut was burned to the ground, and a motor-car standing alongside was also destroyed. The injured man was conveyed to his homo' at Orari and attended to by Dr Fergus Patterson, who found him in a serious condition from, the shock and burns received.
