INDUSTRIES WEEK.
WILL BEGIN TO-DAY.
DISPLAYS IN CHRISTCHURCH
The committee of the Canterbury Industrial Association has completed its arrangements for Industries Week, Which will commence to-day. Numbers of business people have' informed the secretary, Mr C. R. Ford, that they intend to display New Zealand goods and manufactures in their windows. Iu some cases elaborato preparations have been made, and the displays will bo on a very comprehensive scale. This, it is expected, will be noticeable in regard to New Zealand’s woollens and clothing. Large numbers of cards, setting forth the objects of. Industries Week, have been sent out to tradesmen, and will be shown in the windows. They bear the following words:—‘‘lndustries Week.—All goads in this window were made in New Zealand. Support the oountry that supports you.” These cards are embeilished with representations of a moa and a kiwi. Another card informs the public that “by buying goods made in the dominion you support the country that supports you; do your part.” The sum of £25 has been set aside for prizes for the best descriptive account of ,any local industry or process as shown in the shop windows and factories during Industries Week. This will be a school essays competition. There are three classes, the first for scholars from fifteen to seventeen years, the second for scholars from twelve to fifteen, and the third for scholars under twelve years. In- each class there will be a gold medal for first prize and silver medal for second prize, and six other book prizes; and a certificate of merit will be issued to any competitor whose essay is considered of sufficient merit. Headmasters of schools are asked to encourage the children to take part in the competition. Mr J. 11. Howell, director of the Technical College, will be the judge. - )_ Sir Joseph Ward has promised to inspect the displays to-day.
