THE SYDNEY TOURNAMENT. NEW ZEALAND LADIES’ PLAY COMPLIMENTED. United Pres* Association— By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, April 26. Tho morning paper* make complimentary references to tho play of Die New Zealand ladies. The “ Sydney Morning Herald ” says that tire visitors have shown to what perfection tho forehand drive ran bo brought. On tho other hand they will derive benefit from some of Die backhand strokes and the volleying of their opponents. Tho contest in which Mrs Colquhoim and Mi3s Bakor defeated Misses Ward and Wellwood was a remarkable one. It started at 10.30 and finished at ono o'clock. The third sot ran into thirty games, the match taking fifty games. Brookes’s play, though marked with flashes of great brilliancy, was lacking in the latter stages of the inter-Stato matches. It wanted sting and forceful volleying. At the end of tho day it was announced that lie was not feeling fit, and would not participate in tho matches of the prosent week. (Received April 27, 12.30 a.m.) Owing to rain Drere was no important tennis to-dav. Tho unfinished matches of Saturday were not proceeded with.
