UNION STEAM SHIP COMPANY'S FLEET. The Maori is due this morning from Wellington, and the Waikare will arrive from Dunedin as tho extra ferry steamer. The Pateena arrived yesterday morning, in charge of Captain Aidwell, to tako up tho Mararoiv'3 running in tho Lyttelfon-Wellington ferry service. Captain Manning, of tho Mararoa, took hor over, and she sailed for Wellington last evening'. Tho Kittawa is due from Tiinaru to-morrow, and will sail for Wellington and the West Coast on Monday. Tho Rosamond is bringing 4 a cargo of timber from Greymouth, and is due to-morrow. Tho Komata is expected, to sail for Westport on Monday.

The Mararoa will, according to latest estimates, be laid up for a fortnight at Lyttelton. She has heen placed in a berth at the shore end of the' Gladstone Pier. A new shaft is heing- forged at Port Chalmers to replace thp fractured thrust shaft. As soon as the new one is finished it will be brought up and fitted.

Tho Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Arawa is expected here to-morrow to complete discharging her inward cargo. Her loading ports will bo Lyttelton. Cishorne; Tima-ru, Lyttelton and Wellington,- in rotation. She is to sail for London from Wellington on May 20. A bottle was lately picked,up on the boach near St Abb's Head, Berwickshire, containing! tho following message:—" Captain or anyone who receives this 'message shall receive tho> remains of the Dundee whaler Snowdrop. Collided -with iceberg; no hope. Novenibor 14th, 1908. Sinking fast." For some time past (says tho London "Times") fears have been entertained regarding the Snowdrop, the last authentic information of which was received on June 8 last, when she was sighted by several other Dundee vessels operating in the Arcfcio regions. Ono explanation suggested for the absence of tidings concerning her whereabouts is the fact that the owner (Mr ioxsyth Grant) is believed to havo decided to winter in the Arctic.

The Den of Ruthvon is expected to sail /or Timaru on Monday. The Kia Ora is to leave Port Chalmers .MB morning for Gisborne, Napier, Wellington and Lyttelton. She will complete her Homeward loading hero, and is timed to sail for London on May S. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Euapehu is duo to-morrow from Port Chalmers, to load 'frozen mutton and other cl J r| s? r f ,°r L °ndon. She will finish filling up at Wellington, and will sail on May 6 for London, via Monte Video, Rio de Janiero and Tenenffe. She is to catch the July wool sales, and is the time-tablo cheese and butter steamer.
