ROAD BOARDS.

C “JJANDEAILLE and rangiora. The Mandeville and Rangiora Road Board met on April 16; present— Messrs F. Horrell (chan-man), J. btalKbt, C. Leech, J. Stevenson and G. Dalriel. Notice was received that tiie Board’s contribution to the Hospital Board would be £337 4s Bd, and to the Charitable Aid Board £l3/ os. A citation to appear at the hearing of tiie general labourers’ dispute was left to the chairman to deal with. The annual meeting of the Board and the annual meeting of ratepayers were fixed for May 4. A grant of £5 was made to the Rangiora Technical Classes. The clerk was instructed to report on the state of the Kaiapoi Beach Road, iho receipts for the month were reported to have been £l6l 14s 4d and the bank credit balance to b0£334 2s >M. Accounts for £l3O 15s lOd were passed for payment. At a meeting of ratepayers, which was attended by the members of the Board only, it was resolved to close and sell a portion of tho Rangiora-Woodend Road.

LITTLE RIVER. . A meeting of the Little River Road Board was held on April 19; present—ulLthe members. It- was decided that provision should be made for ail overdraft of £I2OO. It was resolved to undertake repairs to Newton s Road. The Minister of Railways wrote, stating that it was not considered advisable to run a stock train on Tuesdays on the Little River line. Mr H. D. Buchanan was appointed to act for tiie district in the Assessment Court. A letter was received from the Department of Roads stating that the balance of the grant for metalling Ridge. Road, amounting to £5 15s, which had not been spent, had been withdrawn. It -wae resolved that the chairman and clerk shonld endeavour to make arrangements to have shingle carted by trucks to part of Little River and Okute Road, and that the Akuroa County Council should be asked for permission to take shingle from a pit at Birdliug’s Flat. In regard to the donation of parts of Kaituna roads, it was resolved that the Board should pay half the cost, and tho balance should be, paid by the settlers affected. It wa& decided that, in compliance with resolutions carried at ratepayers! 1 meetings at Gabbie’s "V alley and Little River, steps should be taken to secure the formation of a new county. The "Waipara Road Board met on 'April 5; present—Sir George Clifford (chairman), and Alessrs Gibb, Todd, Jones and Clothier. Air F. Horrell, member of the Hospital Board for Ashley County, wrote, stating that ia committee had been appointed to report at the next meeting of the Hospital Board on the best means of meeting the medical requirements of the outlying parts of tho district. He would be glad to receive any suggestions which the AVaipara Board might wish to offer. It was decided to reply that the Board luad no suggestions to offer at preeent. The ValuerJ3eneral wTote, stating that the Valuation Department wag now engaged in revaluing the district, and he wished to be furnished with the name of the person who would act on behalf of the Board as a member of the Assessment Court. It was deckled

that Mr O. F. Clothier, of Hawardan, should represent the Board. The Resident Railway Engineer, Christchurch, wrote, stating that ho had obtained an extension of time for the authority to pay to the Board tho sum of £IOO for repairs to the road along the railway liue, near Spyo railway station. It was resolved that, the next ordinary meeting and the annual meeting of ratepavers, and the election of members, should be held on Saturday, May 1. It was decided to erect a now bridge at “ Billy Button’s ” Gully, on the Happy Volley Road. Accounts for £489 13s* 6d were passed for payment.
