SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

An ordinary meeting of the TValtham School Committee was held on Thursday ; present—-Messrs C. Eldridge (chairman), A. Wylie, G. A. TVatkins, T. S. Mortlock, R. Rattray, E. Shaw and T. C. Hill (secretary). The headmaster reported that the average attendance had been 58i .4 out of a roll of 656. The swimming contests for boys and girls had been very successful. The report of the Visiting Committee stated that the. school and grounds wero in a very satisfactory condition, and a large number of pictures bad been hung on tho walls of the school. The inspector’s report on the school was satisfactory. Tho members of the committee intend to seek ro-election. A meeting of -the Sydenham School Committee was held on Monday, Mr TV. D. Marks presiding. The headmaster reported that the average attendance for the month ended April 8 had been 986, and the number on the roll was 1108. The average for the quarter ended March 31 was 984, the highest quarterly average for more than ten years. The Education Board wrote in regard to the proposal to exchange a part of tho school grounds for the silo on which the present post office stands, stating that owing to the valuable double frontage now occupied by the master’s house, and in the absence of any detailed proposal, it had boon, docided to let the matter stand over.
