CRICKET.

SATURDAY'S MATCHES. DISTRICT COMPETITIONS. The iinal round of the Canterbury Cricket district competitions was commenced on Saturday, on slow wickets. Interest in the competitions had largely died out, as all the winners had been assured in the previous round, but some very good play was witnessed, although the scoring was low. In an even game between St Albans ami Riccarton H. A. Bishop made the somewhat sensational score, considering the slow wicket, of 156, which included eight eixes and sixteen fours. Sydenham had much the better of the day's play against Linwood, the winners of the Senior competition, but "West Christchurch and East Christchurch played an even game. LIN WOOD v. SYDENHAM. Considerable interest centred in the match between Linwood and Sydenham. Linwood were all out for the surprisingly poor total of 98. Watson taking seven wickets for 2(5 and Patrick two for 12. Sydenham in their first innings made a better stand, and at call of time had lost seven wickets for 129, Hayes and Gray making good scores of 40 each. The following are the scores:LINWOOD. A. Bishop, who went in first and amassed 156 out of a total of 213. He never made a bad stroke, although, he gwv© a couple of chances. His score included eight sixes and sixteen fours, and ho made his century in eighty minutes, and his total score in two hours. His display has seldom been equalled for hard hitting combined at times with very solid defence, and most of his sixes were lifted a remarkable height. The wicket was slow, and with eighty minutes to play Riccarton commenced cautiously. At call of time one wicket was down for 32. The following are the scores:— ST ALBANS. First Innings. B. B.
