Maori went into the Lyttelton dock about 8 a.m. on Saturday, for the purpose of having repairs executed, to her foreward rudder, which had become jammed and unmanageable, presumably owing to injury received when the vessel ran into the Wellington wharf. This rudder is composed of massive timber bolted to a steel plate, and in .order to ascertain thenature of the injury it was found necessary to strip off tho timber. This task was undertaken by Mr J. Grubb, and the smith’s work in connection with the repairs has been entrusted to Messrs Anderson, Limited. The rudder will be ready for examination this morning. It is not known how much time the. operations which may be required will take, but it is believed that the vessel will have to remain in dock for about a week. Meanwhilo she is being cleaned and painted, and ordinary repairs ate being carried out in tho engine room. Preparations have beon mode for reiiioving the toward rudder when nstessary to do so.
