President Roosevelt, at Washington, laid the corner stone of a building intended to house the Bureau of American Pepublics. There was a vast r,.sseinblage, including representatives of all branches ol the National and State Governments. President Roosevelt, Mr Root and Mr Carnegie spoke. Communications were received from all the Presidents of American. Republics. 'The building will cost a million dollars, Ma - Carnegie contributing three-fourths.
President, Roosevelt remarked that til though during last century development had proceeded faster in North America than, in the South, he believed that during the present century no part of the world would see such extraordinary development, of wealth, population and progress as Mexico and Central and South America. Tho people of the United States regarded with, profound satisfaction the great growth that had already taken place there in political stability and material wellbeing. Mr Root's recent tour was intended to show that the citizens of the United States recognised that their interests were more closely intertwined with those of the other republics of tho American Continent than with other nations.
