ATTEMPTED INCENDIARISM.
CASE AT RANGIOIM. It was discovered yesterday morning that some time during the night a deliberate attempt had been made, to set fire to a storeroom at tho cornor'of Percival Street and Alford Street, Rangiora. Tlie store is a wooden one belonging to the North Canterbury Cooperative Stores Company, and against one of the walls off the street a pile of inflammable litter had been placed. This litter and tho wall had been soaked with kerosene, and underneath a lighted candlo had been placed in a tin,. During the night a strong wind blew up, and this seems to have blown out the candle before tho flame had s read. Tho shed is connected with other premises, and if the attempt at incendiarism had been successful a most disastrous fire might have resulted. Tho water in the fire wells is very low, so that the fire brigade would have been hampered ia dealing with an outbreak.
