RIFLE SHOOTING.

CHRISTCHTJRCH DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. The Christchureh Defence Eiflo Club completed the seventh of its series oi competitions at the range, Cashmere, on Saturday. The weather was unfavourable for shooting, the wind being very strong and gusty. The ranges were 200. 500 and 600yds, seven shots at each. The prize-winners were Riflemen R. Dnthic, W. Smith and H. Marsh. The following were the scores:

The leading aggregates for the best five shoots in seven competitions fired for _ the championship medal are as follow: Rifllernam F. Trent 443, Rifleman H. Reynolds 442, Rifleman C. E Scott 423, Captain Gundersen 420, Rifleman W. Lavery 420, Rifleman W. Morrow 418, Rifleman T. B. Bowring 415, Rifleman D. M'Kay 413, Rifleman S. D. Buntin 412, Secretary J. A. Lummis 411.

On Saturday afternoon tho Kaiapoi Rifles undertook the annual volley and independent firing test. A strong north-east wind interfered with the shooting, which was conducted by Captain Papprill, wiih Lieutenants Feathorstone and Gates, and supervised by Captain Bishoo. The- figure* of merit obtained wero:—For volley 5.9 and for indspendent 6. This season's competitions for tho Kangiora Kiflo Company's challenge belt have been completed, the winner of tho trophy being Sergeant D. Keir, whose aggregate for the four matches was 312. Corporal Breach made 297, Private Humphrey* 293, Private Keir 275 and Private Allen 273.

[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 15. It is expected that the entriesfor the line championship meeting, which will commence on March 5, will exceed previous records. It is probable that the number of competitors from tho Wellington district will be 250. The total entry last year was over 400, and this year's number is expected to be between 450 and 500.
