TRAMWAY BOARD.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Christchurch Tramway Board met yesterday; present—Messrs A. W. Beaven (chairman), G. T. Booth, C. M. Gray, M.P., W. Reece, J. A. Flesher, S. A. Staples, D. Sykes, J. Richardson and H. Pearce.

On the suggestion of tho chairman, the engineer was instructed to confer with the City Surveyor and the Superintendent of the Fir© Brigade in regard to th© use of the Board's appliances for fire prevention purposes.

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. The Works and Traffic Committee reported tliat it had considered a report by the engineer and traffic superintendent, on the question of installing balloon loops at some of the termini, but owing v to the extra land roquired and cost of construction it could not make any recommendation in the matter. A report on the question of providing increased facilities at the entrance to the car shed had also been received, but no recommendation was made regarding the subject. The report was adopted. The Fares Committee reported that it had received certain suggestions regard to the present rates for corjjje*'sion cards, but had decided to postpone consideration until the whole question of concession rides was reviewed at the end of the financial year. As some confusion had arisen regarding the present rate for the carriage of collapsible chairs taken on to cars by passengers, the committee recommended that the rates should be the ordinary section adult fare. The report >vas adopted. DUST ABATEMENT. The Dust Abatement Committee reported that a temporary time-table had been arranged with the ' City Council with reference to street watering. Under the arrangement the following streets would be watered three times per day between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.:—High Street, Victoria Street, Manchester Street, Colombo Street. Worcester Street, Oxford Terrace, Lincoln Road, Moorhouse Avenue, Wordsworth Street, Shakespeare Road, Elisabeth Street, Carlton Street, Boundarv Road, Stanmore Road and Tay Street.

The report was adopted. FENDALTON TRAMWAY. The Fendaltort Tramway Extension Committee reported that it had conferred with representatives of the two committees of ratepayers in the Feudalton extension district, but regretted to find that there w.ns no probability of obtaining unanimity regarding the route to be adopted. The committee recommended that a draft Order-in-Couneil, authorising the construction of a tramway on the route selected by the Board, namely, up Fendalton Road to Clyde Road, to be operated by .a one-horse car, should be submitted to the Public Works Department, and that as soon as that was settled the necessary steps should, be taken to submit the loan, proposals to the ratepayers. In the meantime the committee proposed to consider the boundaries of the special district over which the special loan would be secured. Tho report was adopted. MISCELLANEOUS.

A letter from tho Sumner Borough Council, claiming compensation for damage to streets during the progress of ■tile tramway construction works, was referred to the Works and Traffic Committee.

Other letters from the Sumner Council, urging that the Board should undertake various works in the borough, wero referred, to the engineer for Report. Accounts for £4121 12s 6d were passed for payment.
