HOW 1 OVERCAME BOTH. k I had had a long, tiring day of it. Got home from work about 10.15 p.m. (Parliament ought to stop this overtime for clerks.) Had supper, warmed my feet, and tumbled into bed at 11 p.m. Dead tired. Now for sleep. Oh, my ! A frightful twinge ot pain in that bad tooth. No sleep now. Why didn't I get it out the other day. Truly, bad teeth " make cowards of us all." Besides, with gas it will cost me 5/-, and 5/- takes some earning. Evidently got cold in it coming home against the keen east wind. Midnight: still tossing about. Wrapped a flannel round my face. Tried laying on that side. All no good. It struck one o'clock, two, three, four; then, later, as the birds began to sing, I dozed off into a fitful slumber. Awoke unrefreshed. Determined to quit that tooth.
