AMUSEMENTS.

OPERA HOUSE. There was a typical week-end audience at the Opera House on Saturday evening, when Fuller's new, vaudeville company presented another attractive programme. The principal new items were the reappearances of the Valdenes, trick ..eyejists. Stewart and Lorraine, musical specialists, and Mr R. H. Collins, a tenor balladist. The artists who had appeared during the week introduced welcome new items, the performances of Dela.va.le and Gilbert, eccentric comedians, Morris and Wilson, acrobatic specialists, Salmon and Chester and the Quealys, sketch artiste, being particularly meritorious. Mr Fred Garnett, Walker and Hughes and the Sandow Girls were also very successful in their specialties. The bioscope pictures were new and entertaining. The audience received all the items with marked applause. CHAMBER CONCERT. The last of the series of chamber concerts in the Alexandra Hall will be held on Thursday, at 8 p.m., when the Misses Wells and Mr Gladstone Bell will be the principal artiste. POLLARD'S JUVENILE OPERA - COMPANY. Mr Tom Pollard's clever little band of juveniles will make their reappearance at the Theatre Royal this evening in a plav which bears tne hall-mark or American success, the musical comedy "His Highness the Bey." Since its last visit to Christchurch the company has been touring the dominion and giving successful performances wherever it has been. "His Highness the Bey has been quite as well received as " Bluebell in Fairyland." Master Bertie Nicholson, a clever little comedian, has the leading part, and he has splendid opportunities to show lus versatility. The music of "The Bey" is bright and' catchv, and the dialogue is full of wit. The ballets are also a strong feature of the production. Ihe staging can lack nothing in Mr Pollard's capable hands. WAINONI PARK. Arrangements have been made for a balloon ascent at Wainoni Park on Thursday afternoon by Professor Barnes, "in his hot-air balloon. The balloon is 75ft in height and measures 150 ft in circumference. The Professor has made successful ascents in Auckland and at Day's Bay in Wellington, where he came down in the sea and was picked up by the pilot boat. He will ascend from the arena at Wainoni Park, and preparations are being made for the supply of hot air to inflate the balloon. _____
