Maheno arrives from Melbourne, via southern ports, and leaves for Sydney. via Wellington. Warrimoo arrives from Sydney, via Wellington, and leaves for Melbourne, via southern portrs. Kini leaves for Greymouth. The s.s. Largo Law returned from Dunedin at 8.40 a.m. yesterday, and went at once into dock for cleaning and painting. It is expected that sho will come out on Saturday, when she is to leave for Newcastle. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s t. Iqnio, which arrived at Wellington from Loudon on Tuesday, has about 1400 tons of cargo for Lyttelton, and is expected to arrive here about Monday. The s.s. Wakatu, which arrived on Wednesday night, brought 107 sheep from Kaikoura. .The schooner Morning Light is due from Waitapu with a timber cargo. The New Zealand . and African Company’s s.s. Bippingham Grange arrived from West . of England ports via Australian and northern ports yesterday afternoon, and was berthed at No. 7 jetty to discharge 1500 tons of cargo. It is expected that she will leave, to-morrow evening for Dunedin, where she' is to finish unloading. Her further movements are not yet known. The Tyser s.s. Marere. arrived at Melbourne from London on Tuesday morning, after a passage of forty-one days. Sho should arrive here in three weeks’ time. Mr A. Lewis, of the Union Company, left lor Suva by the Manapouri on Wednesday, sn route to Canada and England. Mr Lewis is to come out as chief engineer of one of the company’s new steamers. Captain J. O. Carter, of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s s.s. lonic, has the following officers associated with him:— Chief. Mr J. Hughes; first, Mr W. Western; second, Mr P. R. Vaughan; third, Mr S. The ship Clan Robertson, which was recently sold to Norwegians, is now known as Maletta, and the barque Bankieigh, also sold to Norwegians, has had her name changed to Ceres. The s.s. Gowanhurn, now on her way to New Zealand from New York, via Australia, is commanded by Captain Forbes, who was second mate of the ship Craigieburn, which was wrecked near Port Philip Heads about fifteen years ago. There has lor some time been a revival .of smuggling on the south-west coast of Ireland, cigars, tobacco, spirits, perfumery, and other excisable goods being traded in by the crew of a Dutch vessel, the Cosmopolite. At tho beginning of last month she was captured, and a search resulted in the seizure of £4OO in Irish bank notes and gold. The Union Steamship Company’s s.s. 'Mr Joseph Hatch is at present in Dunedin (says the 'M-Hago Daily Times ”) making arrangements to despatch the schooner Jessie Nioool to the Macquaries. The “ New Zealand Times ' says:—Messrs Richardson and Co., of Napior, owners of the coastal steamers Toroa, Kami, Ruru and Fanny, have decided to increase the tonnage of tho steamer Toroa. At present the Toroa carries a crew of sixteen all told, which includes three engineers and three firemen. The vessel’s tonnage oan bo increased considerably without any increase in the crow being required by tho shipping regulations. Tho Toroa is now compelled to carry a crow which would suffice for a vessel several times her size. It is therefore intended to lengthen her by about 80ft, which wm mean an increase in her carrying capacity of about 150 tons dead-weight.
