BOROUGH COUNCILS.

KAIAPOI. The fortnightly meeting of the Ea?a« poi Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening; present—the Mayor (Mf J. "H. Blackwell) and Councillors Parnham. Keetley, Hayman, Bugg, Knox and Sullivan. Leave 'of absence was granted to Councillor Eagle. Correspondence was read from the Church Property Trustees, stating that they had no objection to the Council’s hav.ing possession of a part of Blade Street, providing that it should be.used for the erection of a Technical School. It was resolved that steps should bo - taken to secure the site by closing the street at once. The borough surveyor’s report was read and adopted. The Mayor stated that the Finance and Works Committee had inspected the whole town with a view to deciding as to the work to he undertaken in the event of the ratepayers carrying a. poll for a proposed loan. The asphalting, kerbing and channelling proposed would cost £4638 3s 6d. Councillor Sullivan said that he would strongly urge the erection of a gasworks for the town, and it was agreed that the matter should be discussed at the next meeting. The Finance Committee reported receipts amounting to £ll2 10s Id, and expenditure to £l4O ns Sd, and the accounts were passed for payment. A request for the patronage of the Council to a concert to be given in Kaiapoi by the Ranpiora Musical Society was granted. The Mayor stated that a meeting would be called to decide what assistance could be given to the Kaiapoi Brass Band In the erection of « band rotunda. , ■ . _ , The Council sat as the Domain Board and resolved to plant a number of cabbage trees, toi toi and flax bushes in, the Domain. Accounts amounting to £3 13s were passed for payment.,
