CRICKET.

SATURDAY’S MATCHES. SENIOR GRADE. The weather was rather gloomy for cricket on Saturday, though late m the afternoon the sun shone and improved the light considerably. The wickets were in capital order, and some good scores were made, Lusk and Anthony especially giving fine displays. The cold east wind blowing was rather trying to the fielding sides. At Hagley Park, as was expected, St Albans notched a three point win over L™wood, while Sydenham and west Christchurch both obtained first innings victories in their matches. WEST CHRISTCHURCH v. IUCCARTON. At Hagley Park, West Christchurch, with 201 rune for three wickets, resumed batting with Lusk 92 not out and J. D. Lawrence 22 not out. The latter only added four to his previous score when he was bowled off his pads. Weston, and Vernon both left without scoring, the latter being yorked bj Fryer, six wickets being down for 213. Fuller then helped Lusk to improve matters) somewhat, leaving for a confidently played 22. Wilson quickly rrot into double figures before returning one to Maitland. The innings closed (shortly afterwards for 319, Lusk being still unbeaten with a superb innings of 161. He got his inns in a very finished manner, his driving, pulling and crisp hitting being a treat to witness. Being in a deficiency of 215, Riccarton. made a fine start with Anthony and Burton, the" latter being eventually caught for a fairly well hit 31. J. H. Williams, who was very lucky early in his career, afterwards hit well for 53. Harper mad© one more by attractive play. K. Williams then assisted Anthony to play, out time, the latter being still not out and three short of the century. He played very slowly and carefully at first, but later 'on drove with freedom, and got in some very telling cuts. The fielding of West Christchurch as a whole lacked life and was very poor.
