GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES. , [From Our Correspondent.! BLENHEIM,. October 13; The statement of the Minister of Lands that the Government did •'not intend to grant a further subsidy- to any egg-laying competition, but would probably incorporate such contests with experimental farms, created great interest here. So far from causing disappointment, it is welcomed, 'forj Vin view of the success of the egg-laying competition, Marlborough is considered to have a very good chance of having a State farm established.- here, into which the present egg-laying Association’s competition would be merged. At a meeting attended by the president of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Egg-laying Association,, and Marlborough Poultry Association, and , other members of these ‘ three bodies, the Minister’s remarks were discussed, and a movement set on foot with a view to waiting on the Minister of Lands in representative fore© on the occasion of his promised visit to the Agricultural and Pastoral Show next month, and pressing the claims of this district to an experimental farm, With an egg-laying competition as a nucleus. An agricultural hall was also mentioned as a necessary accompaniment of such farm, and there is ©very reason to believe that thie project also will come to the front in- the near future.
