BOXING.
CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION
A meeting of the committee was held on Thursday evening. Correspondence was read from W. Murphy, offering tb box in Christchurch during the Exhibition period. The letter was received. > ! .
W. ,Robertson, Ashbui-ton, wrote, respecting the quality of a trophy he had; received as a second prize in connection with the New Zealand Championships, held in Wellington. The secretary reported that he had had the trophy valued by an expert, who stated that it was considerably below the value stated. It was decided to report the matter, to the Council. Correspondence was received from the New Zealand Council dealing with the Australasian Conference and the sending of a New Zealand representative to England to compete for the light-weight championship of England. In connection with the latter matter the Council requested the Canterbury Association to take steps to secure subscriptions to defray the expenses of sending a representative. Authority was given the chairman and the secretary to canvass'for subscriptions. An application for re-instatement as an amateur was received from P. Rawson. It was decided to. refer the application to the New Zealand Council. The' secretary reported that, as the result of negotiations, R. Turner, of Sydney, and T. Tracy, of Wellington,' had 1 consented to box under the .auspices of the Association for the lightweight championship of New Zealand. The match would take place at the Theatre Royal bn November 29, and would consist of fifteen three-minuto rounds. Additional ©vents would-be a three-round contest between A. L. Nash and P. Olliver, for-the middleweight championship of Canterbury, and a six-round bout between J. Gilmourtand J. Shaw.
Notice® of motion were given as follows (1) To alter the rules of - theNew Zealand Council in the direction ol abolishing the system of giving a medal as first prize for a New Zealand Championship ; (2) to add a clause to the New Zealand Championship rules to the effect that the events must he judged bj a referee and two judges. Under the existing rules the championships can bo judged by a referee alone.
