CANTERBURY ROWING ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association was held at the boathouse (Canterbury Rowing Club) last evening; present—Messrs J. R. Morrison (chairman), H. Ayres, F. D. Kestoven, W. Samuels. A. H. Stubbs, G. Ebert, F. M’Cullough and H. H. Smith.

The annual report, which was adopted, stated that the membership of 727 was the largest in New Zealand. The finances were in a satisfactory condition, and a credit balance of £2l 12s 4d was shown. The failure of the efforts of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association to promote intercolonial contests was regretted, but it was hoped that fresh endeavours with more satisfactory results would be mad© in the future. The report advocated the rowing of interprovincia.l races, on the grounds that such would create healthy competition and would be of considerable interest throughout New Zealand. The River Avon was still in the same condition, and it was apparent that the establishment of a. River Board was absolutely necessary to secure any permanent improvement. The Now Zealand Amateur Rowing Association wrote, recommending that the Championship Regatta should not he held earlier than .February, 1907.

It was decided to forward the recommendation to the Regatta Club. On the motion of Mr Eesteven. a subcommittee was appointed to bring before the Association proposals for a fitting presentation to the honorary secretary as a token of the Association’s appreciation of his efforts. Mr Kestevcn moved that a letter should be sent to the Akarca Rowing Club, suggesting the use of clinker boats in the Senior Fours instead of Best boats, but as the programme of the Akaroa Club had not. been received, nothing could be done, and the matter was left- to await the arrival of the club’s programme.
