The Auckland “Star” of Wednesday says that Messrs Burns, Philp anti Co., of Sydney, have made inquiries of Messrs Henderson and Macfarlane, the Auckland agents for the Oceanic Company, as to whether there would be sufficient cargo offering in New_ Zealand to take building materials and supplies from Sydney and Auckland to San Francisco. The Sydney firm state that a fair quantity of cargo is offering there, but at present it is not sufficient to induce them to charter a vessel. A few Auckland merchants, principally dealers in iron roofing, have made inquiries as to freight, etc., hut Mesas Henderson and Macfarlane state that at least two or three days must elapse before they will be in a position to state definitely .the amount or cargo that would Hkely be shipped by the boat. The present proposal is not to establish a cargo service between these colonies and San Francisco, but merely to meet any demands for cargo that may have arisen in consequence of there being no despatch of a mailboat until July 6 next, this being due to the temporary suspension of the service. If a bteamer is chartered she will be despatched for San Francisco about the end of this month, and will make one trip only. The chartering of this vessel has no connection whatever with the Oceanic Steamship Company, hut is merely a private venture on the part of Messrs Bums, Philp and Co. TELEGRAPH NOTICE BOARD.
