DOMAIN BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Christchurch Domain Board was held yesterday ; present—Messrs H. J. Beswick (chairman), G-. Witty M.H.R., T. H. Davey, D. Buddo, M.H.R., H. P. Murray-Aynsloy, W. H. Cooper, WDunlop and S. A. Staples. The chairman said that little response was being mad© to the Board’s circular to local bodies asking for contributions. The Lyttelton Harbour Board had sent a subscription, but most of the others had not replied. Several members had Act in the park to select the trees to be cut down during the, year. They found that the Tramway Board had not carried out its agreement in putting up its anchor posts in the park, but had put up unsightly barricades. A penny-in-tlie-slot weighing machine had been placed close to the Armagh Street Bridge, either on or very near the Board’s land, and he thought th© Council should be approached to have it removed. V ; A member stated that the machine was on the Council’s property, but could be moved at the instance of the Domain Board.,. It was remarked also that the majority of the local bodies asked for subscriptions had not yet mot since the circular was issued. The secretary read replies to_ the circulars from Ashburton, New Brighton, Wcolston, Heathoote, Amberley, Spreydon and several other Boards and Councils, to the effect that they could not. contribute towards tb© upkeep of the domains. Th© Lyttelton Harbour Board wrote that it had granted £SO. The Lands and Survey Department wrote that it was prepared to take stepa when it knew what would be otherwise contributed. Mr Buddo suggested ■that at the next _ meeting the Board should supply this information, and ask for a- £ for £ subsidy. Mr C. Lewis, M.H.R., wrote inviting the Board to attend the unveiling of the Rolkston memorial, and the invitation was accepted./ v Tb© Telegraph Department wrote that it regretted. that it had encroached on the Board’s property with its works, and would avoid doing so when possible. . Professor- Scott forwarded a plan of Hagley Park South, plotted by one of the students of Canterbury College, to . accompany a plan of North Park supplied previously. He thanked , the Board for the facilities afforded to the students. It was resolved to thank Professor Scott for itfie gift, and also Dr Farr for the interest he had taken in th© work of surveying th© Park. The Board resolved to ask the Construction Company to remove the unsightly wooden-barricades it had erected in the Park at the anchor posts, and replace them by proper rails. In regard to the weighing machine, it was decided to ask the City Council to have it removed to some other locality. Accounts amounting to £BS 4s were passed for payment. *
