HASTINGS, May 5. ‘ Heavy rain yesterday made the course heavy, but there were a number of gallops this morning on the course proper. Douche covered six furlongs in Imin ISsec. Gladsmuir beat Hipporofla over five furlongs. Solution finished well in front of Mystification and King Billy over a mile, covered in Imin 48seo, King Billy being last. Gatenby and Pink ’Un each did half-pace work, Pluck boat Ellerton over five furlongs, and Asteroid covered a mile and a quarter in 2min 13scc, finishing strongly. The Mariello Stakes candidate smartly covered four furlongs, and St Albert boat Moral over six furlongs in Imin I9sec. Polyanthus finished in front of Rose Madder over a mile in I'.uin, 4Ssec. Porcelain took Imin 17seo to cover five furlongs, going lazily. Operetta beat Whnkawehi over seven fujiongs in Imin Sosec. Grand Slam accounted, lor Loftus and Lady Mell over five furlongs in Imin 4scc. Miss Adeline ran away from Waikoura in a three-furlong spin. Sweet Helen covered five furlongs in Imin usee. Oryx went alone once round the hurdles, jumping proficiently. Cinque finished in front of Kaipotipeti, Faro and Eclair once round the hurdles. C. Hazlett at the Randwick Yearling Sales have arrived here in excellent condition, after a good passage from Sydney. The well-known trainer, R. M’Millan, passed through here by this week’s Melbourne boat, and has Mauritius, Miss Vera Capel and Cariola in his charge. The latter two are believed to be in foal, and are likely to ■ be put out of training. M’Milhm expects to return to this colony within a few 'Weeks. CHRISTCHURCH RACING CLUB. Handicappers—Messrs J.
